Kolkata Utsav (“we”, “our”, or “us”) operates the Kolkata Utsav mobile application (the “App”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our App. By using Kolkata Utsav, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Section 01

Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any account credentials. Kolkata Utsav requires no registration or login.

Section 02

How we use your information

We use the information collected to:

Provide core functionality — display events, show event locations on the map, and enable calendar integration.
Improve the App — analyse usage patterns and crash reports to fix bugs and enhance features.
Serve advertisements — display relevant ads through Google AdMob to support the App’s continued development.
Deep link navigation — resolve shared event links (kolkatautsav://event/…) so recipients can open a specific event directly.

Section 03

Third-party services

Kolkata Utsav integrates with the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

Google Firebase (Firestore & Analytics) — stores event data and provides anonymised usage analytics. Firebase Privacy Policy
Google AdMob — serves banner advertisements within the App. May use your device’s advertising ID for personalised ads. Google Privacy Policy
OpenStreetMap / OSMDroid — renders the event map using open map tiles. No personal data is sent to OpenStreetMap. OSM Privacy Policy
Glide (image loading) — loads event banner images from URLs stored in Firestore. Images are cached locally on your device only.
Google Calendar — only invoked when you explicitly tap “Add to Calendar”. No data is shared automatically.
Google Maps — only invoked when you explicitly tap “Open in Maps”. Subject to Google’s privacy policy.

Section 04

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share data only in the following limited circumstances:

Service providers — with trusted third-party processors listed in Section 3 solely to operate the App.
Legal obligations — if required by law, court order, or government authority.
Business transfer — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with prior notice to users.

When you share an event using the in-app share button, the event banner image is temporarily saved to your device’s cache and sent to the app you choose (WhatsApp, Telegram, etc.) via Android’s standard share sheet. We do not intercept or store this data.

Section 05

Data retention

We retain collected data only as long as necessary:

Firebase Analytics data — retained for up to 14 months per Google’s default policy.
Cached banner images — stored locally on your device and automatically cleared by the Android system or when you uninstall the App.
AdMob identifiers — managed by Google per their data retention policies. You can reset your advertising ID at any time in your device settings.

Section 06

Children’s privacy

Kolkata Utsav is a general-audience app not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately and we will promptly delete that information.

In compliance with Google Play’s Families Policy, our AdMob implementation does not target ads to children.

Section 07

Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your data:

Access — request a summary of data we hold about you.
Deletion — request deletion of data associated with your device.
Opt-out of personalised ads — in your Android device settings, go to Privacy → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalisation, or reset your advertising ID.
Location permission — grant or revoke location access at any time via Settings → Apps → Kolkata Utsav → Permissions.
Withdraw consent — uninstall the App to stop all data collection by us.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 10.

Section 08

Security

We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including:

HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data transmitted between the App and Firebase.
Firebase Security Rules to restrict access to event data.
Local image caching isolated within the App’s private storage sandbox.

No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We strive to protect your data but cannot guarantee absolute security.

Section 09

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify users through the App.

We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
