1. Introduction
Welcome to Lost & Found. We are committed to protecting your privacy while helping you secure your valuables. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.
2. Information Collection
- Anonymous Authentication: To protect your identity, we use Firebase Anonymous Authentication. We do not require your email, name, or password to create an account. Your account is tied to a unique device identifier (UID).
- Encrypted Item Data: When you register an item, the name, owner name, and phone number you provide are locally encrypted before being sent to our database.
- Recovery Names: We generate a human-readable “Recovery Name” (e.g., Swift-Falcon-42) to identify your account session. This is stored in plain text to facilitate account recovery.
3. Use of Data
We use the collected data solely for the following purposes:
- To allow finders to view your contact information after scanning your generated QR code.
- To enable you to manage and view your registered items.
- To facilitate account recovery on a new device using your Recovery Name.
4. Data Storage and Security
- Third-Party Services: We use Google Firebase (Firestore) for cloud storage. Data is stored on secure Google servers.
- Encryption: Sensitive contact data is encrypted using industry-standard AES encryption before storage. Even in the event of a database breach, your raw contact details remain unreadable without the app’s internal key.
5. Data Sharing
- Public Visibility: By generating a QR code, you acknowledge that anyone who scans that code will be able to see the contact details (Name and Phone Number) you provided for that specific item.
- No Third-Party Sales: We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties.
6. User Control & Deletion
- Data Deletion: Users have the right to delete their items at any time through the “My Items” tab.
- Account Termination: Since the app uses anonymous login, clearing your app data or uninstalling the app without noting your Recovery Name will result in the loss of access to your data.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
